Protect Your Car From Stone Chips

Stone chips are an irritant and virtually imposable to protect yourself against. They are generally caused when the car in front’s tyres flicks up road debris (usually small stones) from the roads surface and throws them at the car directly behind it. Don’t worry you can reduce the likelihood of your car having any stone chips by following these few simple tips

1. Try and not drive so close to the car in front of you, give yourself a good 50metres distance so if any stones or debris are thrown in your direction the distance will allow the projectile to reduce in speed and lessen the impact.

2. Avoid Motorways. It’s sometimes not always the car in front of you that is responsible for the stone chip but can also be cars on either side speeding past. If you avoid the motorways then you are reducing the chance of a stone chip from other sources than the car in front.

3. Obvious it may seem but reduce your speed. Reducing your speed may mean that it adds an additional 5 minutes or so on your journey but can reduce the chance of stone chip damage.

4. Use stone chip protectors. These are plastic sheets that can be fitted to the front of the vehicle and gives the bonnet and front wings that added layer of protection. They can be unsightly so be sure its something you need for they can be a pain in the back side to remove otherwise.

By following the tips laid out above you should dramatically reduce the chance of a stone chip occurrence.
